Okay, where do I begin? First off, it's important to note how wonderful my husband is for making this trip work for me. It was a very last minute decision at the end of a very stressful week. I think he was more determined than I was to make this work. So Friday the six of us were off to McCall to have a fun girls ski weekend. I was actually excited to get back on a snowboard after 8 years! Well, 3 of us headed up around 6:00, while the others left Kuna around 7:30. You'd think we would have gotten there first, right? Oh no. First, it started snowing on our way up there. Not too unusual this year - except for the fact that it WASN'T predicted. So outside of Cascade we started sliding so we pull over to put the truck in 4WD. Then we get stuck. A truck full of guys stop and push us (plus some vibrant praying) and we were off again. pon entering McCall we realize it may be a little hard to find the road to Vicki's cabin because, well, the snow so so high it's covering all the street signs! So we keep driving down the road (God
definitely had the wheel at this point) and find a guy and his family completely stuck on the side of the road. They had a little red car and it wasn't going anywhere. So we stop to help them with shovels, sand, and our big mamma muscles : ) This part of the trip was funny because we met aggressive guy, sloppy drunk woman, and the "turtle neck" guys who needed to "process" in the SUV. In the end, a really nice guy came to help out too (he reminded me of my father in law)... but we just couldn't get him unstuck. By this time, the second car had made it up to McCall and was waiting for us in the Lardo's parking lot. Scroll down to hear the rest of the story...

This is a posed picture of me pushing the red car... but a true picture was impossible, considering we were all helping push so no one could take the picture. Could you imagine saying, "hey why don't you all push while I stand here and take a picture!"

Connie posing. We were acclimating to the snow and cold pretty well by this point.

And finally! We made it to the cabin. But getting here was not easy. Vicki couldn't see the road signs so she actually passed the road once. When we finally turned onto the road, scratch that -
lane would be a more suitable word, I was saying "Oh my gosh! Just stop and back out and go to my in-laws cabin!" The snow was so deep and the lane was so narrow, if we would have gotten stuck I'm not sure we would have been able to get out of the truck because the doors would have hit the embankment. Anyway, somehow we made it up. The cabin was very cozy - but not warm. The only heat comes from a woodburning stove - and it takes a while to get it from 43 degrees to a comfortable 68 or so.

Did we really need this much stuff for 2 nights?! Of course - we're women!

After giggling, talking, shivering and praying we finally fell asleep around 3 am. And this is what we woke up to. An unexpected 8 inches - and it was slick! The truck in the back was stuck. After playing in the snow for a while, waiting for the plow (which never did show up) we tackled the stuck truck and actually did get it out of the driveway. But it only made it up to the next street before it was stuck again and then backslid into the embankment. I wish I had pictures of the chaos that ensued after this, but we were a little busy... so no pics. I'll save you the details, but after a couple hours, 2 tow trucks (one to tow the first one that got stuck after helping us out), and a group of worn out women - we were free. To do what, you may ask??? Well, there was no way we were going back up to the cabin and there was no way we were ready to cut our girls weekend short - so we came back to Boise, got a Hotel room (which the lovely Angelina at The Ameritel Inns and Suites upgraded to a suite at no charge for us), went to dinner, a movie, got a wonderful continental breakfast, a heated swimming pool, went shopping and went out to lunch! Now why didn't we just do that to begin with?

The now famous "McCall ski trip gone bad girls".

Poor Rachel had been battling a cold and by the time we made it down the hill she was tuckered. Although she looks beautiful in this picture she felt horrible so she called it a weekend and went home to sleep in her own bed.

Wake up girls! It's time to go to the movie! Oh, by the way if you're wondering where the "Mountaineer Mamas" comes from... Laurie drives a Mountaineer and it never got stuck the whole weekend so we thought it deserved some praise.

OMG...You brave souls and helping others out too! Yea, Mama's you rock and deserved that weekend. With the kind of luck you gals were having, it's probably a good thing you didn't make it to the ski hill. Someone had a great idea to go to the Ameritel. Looks like you all had fun though...and wasn't that the point? Great pics.
Love, Mom
I wish I could have gone! That sounds like fun. Especially the hotel and movie part!
